I have a student who swears that the most dangerous hurricanes are the one's with a black woman's name. She calls it black woman's fury. Of course this logically explains how dangerous Rita, Katrina, Wilma, and Fay have been. (She tells me these are black fury names. What do I know--I've lived in Utah for the last 9 years) Personally, I've never liked the name Hannah. This storm looks poised to pay us a visit. Not only that but it is supposed to hit around the time I am supposed to leave for Utah. I have been told not to worry. Hannah is a white woman's name. We will see.....

My cute sister and her hubby just had baby boy #2, Ethan Robert. Can you imagine how much I have been dying to meet this little one! I am going to visit in September and I cannot wait. It seems Cari may never update her blog (she tells me she is busy with babies) so here you go. A few pics to enjoy. Who do you think Ethan looks like? They say he looks like Michael when his eyes are open and Anthony when his eyes are closed. I think he looks just like Anthony in the first picture. My husband LOVES BYU football. For the last two months, I have been hearing the countdown to how many days left 'til the season starts. We had to get some special package with our satellite so we can get the games in Florida. When it comes to BYU, Mike is an eternal optimist. Every year I hear how great we are going to be and am usually left disappointed. Enter this year. BYU is ranked really high- anywhere from #10-#16. The New York Times has them ranked #10 in the nation pre-season. Could this be the year my hubby has been hoping for for so long? The first year in ten years that we haven't lived in Utah and they get good? Guess we will have to fly Mike out to see a game. BYU was picked as the team with the best chance to break the BCS "glass ceiling" and make it to a major bowl game. Wouldn't that be cool. Every year we curse the BCS- what a crock it is. It would be great to be one of the first non-BCS teams to make it to a big game! (Oops, I forgot. I live in...

This week we will be officially inducted as Floridians. Our first major storm, FAY is headed our way. Right now they are predicting possible hurricane levels in the keys and south Florida. The only positive to a hurricane is that at least we know it is coming. Growing up in the land of earthquakes, Mike and I appreciate that at least we can anticipate what is going to happen. Mike's work has someone leaving tomorrow morning for Atlanta to head up their data recovery just in case Office Depot is destroyed in a massive hurricane. I was actually hoping it would be us. I am not excited at the prospect of being bolting indoors with my food storage, 2 dogs and no electricity. It has been three years since there was a major hurricane. This seems to make locals think that we are due for one soon. This makes me very nervous. All the handouts at church today were on emergency preparedness and hurricanes. Subtle hint? Well, gotta go. I love the Olympics. Not just any Olympics. The summer Olympics. They are so much fun to watch. Granted there are some strange events like the pentathlon which consists of shooting, running, swimming, riding horseback, and running (really?!) but overall there are so many great events. Volleyball, basketball, diving, gymnastics, and of course swimming. This is how I will spend my next two weeks-glued to the TV watching all my faves. And don't you just get caught up in all the human interest stories? My personal favorite is Dara Torres who is 41 and back swimming at the Olympics. She had a baby a couple years ago and used swimming to help her stay in shape during and after her pregnancy. Then she starts racing and realizes that she is still amazingly fast. Last night she swam anchor on a freestyle relay and redeemed the slow swimmer before her by pulling the U.S. to a silver medal finish. It was amazing. 41 and still rocking. You go girl! I started a new job this week. I am back to teaching. It is so nice to get out of the house and feel productive again. I teach introductory pharmacy, law, and math courses. Unlike my last job where I was the program director in charge of EVERYTHING, now my only duties are preparing for class, teaching, and keeping grades and attendance! It is fabulous. It is quite a culture shock coming from Utah. A typical student profile there was female, white, twenties, & LDS. Here I would say over 80% of our students are Haitian. The students' native language is Creole which is based on French. (Guess my 6 years of taking French may serve a purpose after all!?) So, I am learning to understand new accents. Never has my blond hair and pasty white skin stuck out so much! (Seriously it is WAY too hot and humid to stay outside long enough to get a tan.) Also nobody here has ever heard of a Mormon and the staff can't figure out why I don't do espresso shots with them in the morning. How ...
